Xerox Color 550/560 digital printers are defined with an average print volume of 10.000-50.000 pages per month (AMPV). Product marketing manager of Xerox UK Malcolm Glynn said that 550/560 is a baby version of 700 with AMPV 20,000-75,000. It uses low EA smelter toner, such as Xerox 700, to ensure a better fit with the machine and at the end of the stock used. Lightweight finishing finisher handles coated stock and comes with an input interposer tray, if necessary to combine pre-printed material, and available with booklet maker or plus booklet folder. For a space-squeezed environment, one major change is that all stocks, up to a maximum of 300gsm, can be handled by the tray inside the main unit, rather than requiring a large-capacity external feeder.

Xerox Color 550/560 can be supplied with several different controllers depending on requirements and preferences, something offered by some lightweight production competitors, and unique in this lighter market sector. The most basic option is embedded Fiery, which tends to be perfect for office environments.
